Why Is This Oil Rig Explosion in Alaska so Dangerous?

New York City is in the midst of a wild growth oil rig explosion.
The explosion happened in an oil rig in Alaska’s Ketchikan National Wildlife Refuge on Monday.
The boom that broke out at the Alaska National Wildlife Refuges site sent oil and concrete spewing into the air.
At least three people were injured and a number of buildings in the area were damaged.
The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed that the explosion is caused by the explosion of a pipeline, which was in use by BP.
The oil rig exploded after an explosion on Monday night in the Ketchimik National Wildlife Reserve in Alaska.
BP, the world’s largest oil and gas producer, is owned by ExxonMobil.
The BP Valdez disaster, which killed 11 people and caused $2 billion in damage, caused the largest ever explosion in the oil industry.
BP was fined $2.5 billion by the Justice Department for a spill of nearly 1.6 million barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico, which is off the U.K.’s coast.
A BP spokeswoman told ABC News, “The incident that occurred in Alaska this morning was not an accident, and is being investigated as such.”
A spokesperson for ExxonMobil said, “We are cooperating fully with authorities and will provide additional information as we become aware of it.”
A BP spokesperson told ABC affiliate KTUU, “There was an accident at our oil rig that was in the process of being cleaned.
It was an extremely dangerous situation and the crew immediately called for help.”
